Another place to see, Grimselpass and Oberalp pass

This weekend after recovering from the cold we went to Grimselpass. There are three dams and powerplants on 2000m above the see level, and it is the place where the Rhein river starts "you may know the movie from karkhe to rhein". In fact it starts as a small stream between Grimselpass and Oberalp-pass, coming from glaciers! Then the amount of water increases on the way, and it enters some lakes like Interlaken andexits. Its name changes to Aare in Bern. Going Forward it passes from Basel and then enters Germany where it is called Rein and goes forward about 1000 km north to enter the NordSee.
The interesting pint is that the swiss people have built some roads up there and some steam-train for tourists, beside some hotels! check out the pictures.

Phd Defense, Bagpipe

Last thursday and Friday, there were two phd denfeses in out institute, and on thursday there were two people who had been working here for a while and thay were leaving the institute as well. Not to mention, there were several aperos afterward! Usually the person who is going to leave, is given a present to remember the institute. This time the present was a shirt that the other people had written their names in original language! check out the pic:)

Also as every saturday I went for shopping in the old town of Bern, and I was lucky enough to see a Scottish street music with Bagpipe, and watched it for a while. I really like this music.

well unfortunately I have cought cold and no special plan for this weekend:( I wish you the health!

A nice shirt!

KleineScheideg

Again we had another sunny weekend and tried to take advantage of the good weather (which is rare here) and went to KleineScheideg. The hiking took 7 hours time. On the way up, we passed by an old tree that it's root had penetrated into a stone, and there was an old text in German, from bible! which was even hard for my german friend to understand it! Well click on the picture to see the enlarged picture.
After more walking up, we got to the point that we could see the glaciers and waterfalls on the main three mountains of switzerland Eiger, Monch and Jungefrau.

Another trip!

Hello again all viewers (bloggers and nonbloggers!)
Last weekend, I went to a summer trip with the other people from our institute, and it was fantastic except the saturday night:)
The trip started from Bern and we went to Brienz, and the real fun started.
Have you ever heard about moor? well I didn't know about it before! It is an ancient lake that gradually has been covered with special kind of algae, during the thousands of years, so that you can walk on this sponge layer of algae now. This algae layer grows 1mm per year and the tour guide told us that the layer's depth was 7m !!
Then we had lunch and started to hike toward the Rothorn and saw some beautiful Alpine mountain goats on the way!
On saturday night we stayed in a place that was more like a military camp!! No one had a good sleep except the snoring people!! Also I woke up freezing at 2am! the reason was that someone had turned off the heater and someone else had left the window open!
Next day we went to the (Ballemberg museum) which is about ancient rural life of the switzerland! They have removed old rural houses from differnet parts of switzerland, and rebuilt them in this musuem which is about 2km by 1km! you can see old weaving amchines and. . .
check out the pictures and click on them to enlarge:)
